Robustness of Greedy Type Minimum Evolution Algorithms

چکیده
For a phylogeny reconstruction problem, Desper and Gascuel [2] proposed Greedy Minimum Evolution algorithm (in short, GME) and Balanced Minimum Evolution algorithm (in short, BME). Both of them are faster than the current major algorithm, Neighbor Joining (in short, NJ); however, less accurate when an input distance matrix has errors. In this paper, we prove that BME has the same optimal robustness to such errors as NJ but GME does not. Precisely, we prove that if the maximum distance error is less than a half of the minimum edge length of the target tree, then BME reconstruct it correctly. On the other hand, there is some distance matrix such that maximum distance error is less than 2 √ n of the minimum edge length of the target tree, for which GME fails to reconstruct the target tree.

ALGORITHMS FOR MINIMUM EVOLUTION August 15, 2002 Fast and accurate phylogeny reconstruction algorithms based on the minimum-evolution principle
The Minimum Evolution (ME) approach to phylogeny estimation has been shown to be statistically consistent when it is used in conjunction with ordinary least-squares (OLS) tting of a metric to a tree structure. The traditional approach to using ME has been to start with the Neighbor Joining (NJ) topology for a given matrix, and then do a topological search from that starting point. The rst stage...
متن کاملSome Greedy Learning Algorithms for Sparse Regression and Classification with Mercer Kernels
We present some greedy learning algorithms for building sparse nonlinear regression and classification models from observational data using Mercer kernels. Our objective is to develop efficient numerical schemes for reducing the training and runtime complexities of kernel-based algorithms applied to large datasets. In the spirit of Natarajan’s greedy algorithm (Natarajan, 1995), we iteratively ...

متن کاملA Metaheuristic Algorithm for the Minimum Routing Cost Spanning Tree Problem
The routing cost of a spanning tree in a weighted and connected graph is defined as the total length of paths between all pairs of vertices. The objective of the minimum routing cost spanning tree problem is to find a spanning tree such that its routing cost is minimum. This is an NP-Hard problem that we present a GRASP with path-relinking metaheuristic algorithm for it. GRASP is a multi-start ...
